Unspoken Rituals

This project confronts the pervasive stigma surrounding menstruation by placing what is often hidden directly in view. Using red embroidery and embellishments to mimic period blood, the work transforms a symbol of shame into a visual protest. The arrangement challenges societal norms that deem menstruation unclean or inappropriate for public discussion. By laying the garments bare, the piece urges viewers to reconsider the discomfort and silence often imposed around periods. It calls attention to how natural bodily functions are still shrouded in taboo, especially for women and people who menstruate, and advocates for open, honest conversations that dismantle the culture of embarrassment and invisibility.
