The weight of the world

My work explores the weight women carry, reflecting their emotional and physical burdens from societal expectations and struggles. Each piece visually represents resilience, vulnerability, and strength, inviting viewers to connect with universal challenges and encouraging dialogue. Stuffing creates an unplanned look, replicating the curves and folds of women’s bodies while providing a comforting feel in an uncanny way. Each material is different in colour, texture and touch, truly replicating the uniqueness of each womans body. The piece “Split”, the pink torso seated on the windowsill and the waist below it, resonates with my experiences as a woman, particularly regarding lingerie. It’s frustrating when bra and knickers sets don’t fit, forcing separate purchases at additional costs. Misaligned bra backs and cups cause pain, requiring extenders: knickers, often too small, ignoring the need for pads during menstruation. This only one of the many “microscopic” issues women face, that certainly shouldn’t be ignored; they are one small of a huge whole that effect women mentally, physically and financially. This is what I have encapsulated in this exhibition.
